About Us

John and Josefina are biligual hosts that meet and greed our guests.
The building was constructed in 1900. In 1999 the Architects Teresa Rovira and Roberto Terradas undertook the complete renovation of their daughter’s apartment
In 2004, we acquired the apartment with a view to offering luxury accommodation for the discerning visitor to the city.

In deciding the name "Casa Capella", John suggested "Capella", in homage to Josefina's mother, Ascension Capella, who was a dearly loved teacher of music in Barcelona.

An Eixample Townhouse Apartment

Architect's report

The apartment is situated in a building of the traditional “Eixample” town house style, characterised by a large central stairway and open sided lift in wood panelling with two apartments per floor. As a result, the apartment describes an elongated rectangle, with exterior facades at the two ends, allowing through ventilation. The internal layout includes a living - dining area, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a kitchen.

The two bedrooms are located on the side facing Calle Provenza. The original wooden window frames have been conserved, but the original glass was changed for double glazing to offer better acoustic and thermal insulation. On the side facing the open interior of the block, with a sunnier aspect, the lounge and dining area are located. Leading out from this, there is terrace overlooking one of the more unusual “Eixample” block interiors with a view to the “Pedrera” and the lush vegetation of the neighbouring gardens below. Part of the terrace has been converted into a studio giving easy incorporation into or seclusion from the lounge.

A 3 metre ceiling height has been maintained throughout the apartment together with the original ceiling decoration and detail and the thoughtful placement of furniture only serves to enhance this. The floor is cherry wood parquet in all communal areas with the exception of the bathrooms which are finished in tile and natural stone. Nearly all the large pieces of furniture are also made of cherry wood, permitting harmonious visual integration.
